Fittonia: planta de piel de serpiente (Fittonia: snakeskin plant)

Fittonia (Fittonia albivenis) pertenece a la familia Acanthaceae. Es una planta vistosa con venas delicadas que dibujan densas redes blancas sobre hojas verde oscuro, por lo que se conoce como planta de piel de serpiente. También hay fittonias con venas rosadas, rojas y verdes. Son perfectas para terrarios o jardines en botellas.  Requieren de humedad constante, suelo de turba pesado. Cultivar  exitosamente fittonias depende de mantener un ambiente suficientemente cálido, con temperaturas mínimas de 18º C (65ºF). Debido a su hábito de crecimiento se ven mejor en macetas aplanadas que en contenedores muy profundos.

Fittonia (Fittonia albivenis) belongs to the Acanthus family. Is a lovely plant with heavily veined leaves, conforming a fine net on the deep green leaves. You can also readily find fittonia with veins in pink, red and green. They are perfect for terrariums or bottle gardens. They require very high, constant humidity, peaty growing mixture. Growing fittonias successfully is largely dependent on maintaining a sufficiently warm environment. A miminum of 18º C (65ºF) is necessary. Because of their habit of growth they look better in shallow pots rather than full-depth containers.
